Eucalypts recovering from fire

Description

The tree in the foreground with the orange bark is a Sydney Red Gum (Angophora Costata). The tree behind with the blackened trunk is a Sydney Peppermint (Eucalyptus piperita). The bright red/orange/purple colours in the new leaves of the Sydney Red Gum are due to anthocyanin, a pigment that protects the leaves from insect predation and from sun damage.
